I’m looking for a partner not money

After talking to people online I realized that many foreign men already have a picture of Filipinas in their minds before they even get to know us. They think we're uneducated, and we don't have careers. They think we're only interested in foreigners because we want money or a better life. Sometimes, before they even ask my name, they've already decided what kind of woman I am. I grew up in a family that taught me to respect people and work hard. My parents always reminded me that education is something no one can take away from me. I've spent long days at work, I know what it means to earn every peso. Because of where I was born, some people assume I must be searching for someone to rescue me. I'm not looking for a rescuer. I'm looking for a partner. A man who will see my heart before my nationality and the passport I carry. It hurts when someone treats you with suspicion before you've even had the chance to show your character.
But I know who I am and the values I was raised with. There are women in my country who feel exactly the same. They wake up early to go to work and support their families. They are independent and educated. These women don't need someone else's money.
Please don't judge the next Filipina you meet by the worst story you've heard or the worst experience you've had. Give her the chance to tell you who she is, watch whether her words match her actions, notice how she treats people.
If one day I fall in love, I hope it will be with a man who chooses me not because I'm from the Philippines and not because he thinks I need money. I hope he chooses me because he feels love in my heart. I dream of a good man to love, to build a family with him, to have kids. That is the future I'm searching for. And I know I'm not the only Filipina who feels this way.
